“Energy Secretary Rick Perry suggested Thursday that expanding the use of fossil fuels could help prevent sexual assault.

Speaking during an energy policy discussion about energy policy with “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd and Axios CEO and founder Jim VandeHei, Perry discussed his recent trip to Africa. He said a young girl told him that energy is important to her because she often reads by the light of a fire with toxic fumes.

“But also from the standpoint of sexual assault,” Perry said. “When the lights are on, when you have light that shines, the righteousness, if you will on those types of acts.”

  1. Countries in Africa are actually pushing for renewables, like solar. It's the west that is trying to prevent them from pursuing this.

  2. If fossil fuels were the only way to create electricity, he might have a point. But African countries are adopting solar power at a faster rate than North America.

  3. Some people are actually defending his ridiculous comments . Even Mr. Perry knew that his own thoughts were going awry when he tried pulling out of the crash by saying , "…shine righteousness ". The guy tried to be witty by connecting the Fossil Fuel lobbyists interest to the current concerns of sexual abuse and it landed flat , big time. To try to offer a left field explanation about what he meant about the affects electricity has on crime is just pathetic. Rick Perry made a bone head statement and it should be acknowledged as such , and to leave it at that . Smh.

  4. …. Let's say I'm willing to entertain Perry's…point. If his argument is a need for light, then let's get light. Sustainable light with clean energy.

  5. I've dont contract work on city street lighting. Its effect on crime is well known and both democrat and republican city governments are pretty well versed on its importance.

I'm sorry TYT are way out over their skies on this one.

  6. Perry is simply saying ‘Regular electricity supply helps prevent crime’, which is true. Please, stop over-blowing this.💥💥

  7. NewsFlash John an Cenk! Sometimes it ain't no sun shining and they're ain't no wind, so if you like intermittent unreliable power, go for it. And BTW very few Africans getting power connected for the first time can afford a Lithium Ion battery to power the house at night.

  8. ive heard "what were you wearing" "did you have anything to drink" but never "was there enough light in the room" lol

  9. "When the lights are on, when you have light that shines, the righteousness, if you will, on those types of acts."

What happened to Rick Perry? I know he hasn't ever been the smartest guy, but he used to at least speak in complete sentences. He's devolved into Palin-esque word salad since getting into the Trump administration.

  10. Only a religious Trumptard could screw this up. My version of stopping sexual assault with fossil fuels involves dousing the offenders in gasoline and setting them ablaze. Given how many shit stains are running around, I'm going to need a few trucks worth of fuel.
