Filipino activists protest president’s anti-drug campaign

The activists gathered near the presidential palace on Human Rights Day to denounce President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-drug campaign. Some of them held banners and placards reading – stop the killings, deaths under the escalating reign of terror and erosion of human rights. Duterte won the election in May on a platform of crushing crime. Scores of suspects have been killed since the president launched his campaign against drug dealers and other criminals following his election. Civil rights campaigners, however, have criticized anti-drug operations amid concerns that some of the suspects may have been summarily executed.
